There is an uncertain battle being fought at the edges of naiveté and innocence. A battle waged on the verge of nice.

“Verge of nice” is Ruth Wilsons first solo visual art exhibition. We are invited to become part of a world of objects, scenes and stories in which Wilson presents some of the kind and questioning versions of her personal social perspective. A long, brightly lit charcoal frieze, meets a dark, intimate space interrupted by richly colourful, theatrically set photographs.The photographs use objects and landscape to tell some untold story, describing moments from the life of an unseen imaginary character.

 

“Verge of Nice” deliberates upon the hard fought for space between innocence and naiveté.

 

Ruth Wilson is an Adelaide based artist and founding member of Floating Goose Studios. She completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts in 2013 and was selected for inclusion in the Helpmann Academy Graduates Exhibition in 2014. Recent exhibitions include “Verisimilartude (ver-i-sim-i-lar-dude)” in 2014 at Floating Goose Studios Gallery and “Experience Diffused” at Coriole Vineyards for the 2014 SALA Festival.

Wilson’s exhibited works include: stereoscopic (3D) photographic works, structural-steel “drawings” for dance performance, large scale monochromatic drawings, production of soundscapes to accompany her own and other video artist’s work, motion video performance and performance as a musician in Australia and the USA.

Ruth Wilson’s overriding interest is in the theatricality of the construction of social identity; the grand sweeps and gentle intimate motions which affect our personal perspectives.
